Electricity pylon catches fire in Cranleigh

Firefighters have been tackling a blaze on an electricity pylon in Cranleigh.

Crews were called to the incident on Guildford Road at around 2pm this afternoon.

Nearby residents also reported hearing an explosion.

Two fire engines and specialist vehicles were sent to the scene.

They discovered an electrical transformer on a pylon had caught fire, which resulted in approximately 5 sqm of damage. 

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said the incident was successfully cleared shortly after 3pm.
