A woman was rescued by members of the public after falling into the River Wey in Godalming over the weekend.

Surrey Fire and Rescue say their crews and Surrey Search and Rescue stood down and the incident was handed over to paramedics on Sunday.

The female was handed over to paramedics for a "precautionary check-up" after it happened near Catteshall Road.

A spokesperson South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed the woman was taken to the Royal Surrey County Hospital for further treatment following assessment at the scene.

Members of the public are being praised for their work.
