Police warning after fly tipping incident in Chertsey

Police warning after fly tipping incident in Chertsey

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 6:00am 17th August 2019.

Surrey Police is urging people to 'do their research' when getting people to dispose of waste.

It's after a recent fly tipping incident in Chertsey left a large amount of debris blocking a road there.

In response the force issued a statement warning people to check operators have waste licences before agreeing to them taking rubbish away.

Officers said if an operator declines to show them or makes excuses, then the best thing to do is use an alternative.

In a statement Surrey Police said:

“Scenes like this will continue as long as people keep using criminals to clear their waste.

“This is organised crime. An unsophisticated scam and knowingly or unknowingly, you’re allowing yourself to be a part of it.

“You’re dealing with people who simply want quick cash for your convenience and that’s it.

“These operators have no intention of going anywhere near a recycling centre regardless of how you rate the current system.

“Know who you’re dealing with and keep a note of their details in case your unwanted items end up like this. Hold someone accountable."

They added that if you suspect anyone is a rogue trader, they should be reported to your local borough council.
