'Do not travel during rush hour' warning issued by South Western

'Do not travel during rush hour' warning issued by South Western

Published by Josh Kerr at 5:52pm 17th July 2019. (Updated at 10:37pm 17th July 2019)

Disruption is expected on South Western Railway services to and from Waterloo until the end of the day following a track-side fire.

The operator says trains will be delayed or cancelled until the end of service today and possibly into tomorrow's morning peak period.

It's understood that a total of nine platforms at Waterloo have been fully closed as a result of damage to rail infrastructure in the Waterloo area caused by the blaze.

In a statement South Western said:

"We strongly advise, wherever possible, that if you are travelling from London Waterloo or Clapham Junction during peak hours, to travel earlier than planned or to delay travelling until later this evening.

"London Waterloo and Clapham Junction are expected to be extremely busy and queuing systems may be implemented if necessary. Please use alternative stations where possible.

"We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey."
