Elderly woman attacked in Lightwater burglary

Published by Carol Musgrave at 11:45am 11th July 2019. (Updated at 5:15am 12th July 2019)

An elderly woman has been attacked in her own home during an aggravated burglary in Lightwater.

She was alone when it happened on Tuesday night (July 9) in Christie Close, at around 10:30pm.

Police say she noticed someone outside on her patio, trying to get in using a screwdriver.

She then noticed a second man inside her living room.

The men demanded cash and jewellery, threatening her and slapping her several times, before making off with a quantity of cash.

They are described as wearing dark clothing, balaclavas and gloves.

Police Constable Roxanne Hudson said an appeal is out for anyone who might have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area that night.:

"If you're a neighbour or happened to be driving through the area...and saw men of this description, we would appreciate your help with our investigation.

"As well as this, if you live in the area and have CCTV footage which you believe could help us, please get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police straightaway on 101, quoting crime reference PR/45190071888.

Or you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
