Lorry driver seriously injured in M25 crash

Lorry driver seriously injured in M25 crash

Published by Carol Musgrave at 9:15am 11th July 2019. (Updated at 4:15pm 11th July 2019)

The driver of a lorry which jacknifed in a serious crash on the M25 this morning has been airlifted to hospital with serious injures.

The articulated lorry was involved in a collision with a London taxi and a Citroen, on the clockwise side between Leatherhead and Wisley, before 5am today (July 11).

It ended up going into the nearside barrier.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, including police, fire services and the air ambulance.

Police say the occupants of the other vehicles escaped injury.

The stretch between junctions 8 and 10 was closed for nearly ten hours after it happened just after 5am this morning.

Emergency services were clearing up a 'large diesel spill'.

Three lanes were reopened around 14.40pm but lane one (of four) remains closed. Heavy traffic remains.

A diversion is in place - drivers need to follow the yellow hollow triangle symbols:

  • Exit the M25 at J8 (Reigate Hill Interchange).
  • At the roundabout take the third exit on to the A217 towards London.
  • At the A240 (Burgh Heath) turn left at the traffic signals on to the A240 towards Kingston.
  • At the A24 (Ewell roundabout) take the third exit on to the A24 towards London.
  • At Organ Crossroads follow the A240 towards Kingston.
  • At the A3 (Tolworth Interchange) take the first exit at the roundabout on to the A3 towards Portsmouth.
  • Follow the A3 to the M25 J10 (Wisley Interchange) and take the third exit at the roundabout to re-join the M25

*Note that there is a height limit of 15' 3" with Tolworth railway bridge across A240*

Meanwhile, officers are appealing for witnesses to the crash.
