Council welcomes seminar on planning for climate change in Guildford

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 10:20am 17th June 2019.

Guildford Borough Council are set to welcome the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) to their Millmead offices to hold a seminar on Planning for Climate Change.

Caroline Reeves, Leader of Guildford Borough Council, said:

“Climate change is a top priority for us and I am glad that we have had the opportunity to work with the TCPA to offer this important seminar to local authority staff and elected members.”

Tracey Coleman, Director of Planning and Regeneration, added:

“The seminar, taking place on 20 June, will show how local authorities can respond to climate change through strategic and local plans by undertaking resilience measures at an early stage.

”It will also provide an overview of the latest climate science and the wider UK response to climate change, and the policy and legislation which can be used to address climate change at a local level.”

The TCPA says that the impacts of climate change are increasingly clear and so are the more localised impacts across the UK.

From flood risk to heat stress, communities are said to be bearing the impact of climate change on an increasingly frequent basis, with serious social and economic consequences.

The Building Research Establishment (BRE) will run a workshop on the role of certification as part of the event.

The seminar is for local authority staff and elected members and is free to attend.
