Two flood alerts still in force in Surrey and Hampshire

Two flood alerts still in force in Surrey and Hampshire

Published by Carol Musgrave at 10:09am 12th June 2019. (Updated at 10:21am 12th June 2019)

After heavy rainfall earlier this week, two flood alerts remain in place in our area.

The Environment Agency alerts are for Chertsey Bourne and  the River Blackwater and Cove Brook covering Aldershot, Farnborough and Camberley.

Yesterday morning eight alerts were in force after a Met Office Amber rain warning issued on Monday (June 10) saw as much as 40-45mm of rain falling around the Guildford area, 48mm in Wisley, 45mm in south Farnborough and 48.6mm in Leatherhead in a 24 hour period.

As of this morning, the EA said flooding is possible for these two areas, and people should be prepared, as river levels here remain high but steady.

Property flooding is not currently expected.

The EA says it is keeping an eye on river levels, as isolated heavy showers are expected today.

Surrey and Hampshire's five day forecast:

Today:
Mainly dry and misty start. Some patchy light rain is possible before a band of heavy and perhaps thundery rain affects some southern and eastern areas during the morning. Brighter with scattered heavy, possibly thundery, showers for the afternoon. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Tonight:
Turning drier across most of the area with showers becoming isolated by midnight. Some mist and chance of fog forming by the end of the night. Winds remaining light. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Thursday:
Early mist clearing to scattered showers on Thursday morning with bright or sunny spells. Cloudier and breezy with showery rain for Thursday afternoon. Turning drier during the evening. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:
Turning drier for Friday and Saturday with bright or sunny spells and scattered showers, and feeling warmer than of late. Sunday probably similar.
