Weather warning upgraded to Amber

Published by Carol Musgrave at 10:51am 10th June 2019. (Updated at 11:32am 10th June 2019)

The Met Office has issued an Amber warning for rain in Surrey and Hampshire this afternoon and evening.

It has upgraded the alert from Yellow, following earlier, sometimes heavy, rainfall.

The warning is in place from 3pm to 11pm.

We could up to 60mm of rain falling in the space of 4-6 hours.

It warns fast flowing floodwaters are possible, causing danger to life.

It also warns of the likelihood of flooding and travel disruption as rain lashes our area later, which could cause damage to buildings.

Trains and bus services could be delayed or cancelled and drivers are warned of difficult conditions on the roads, as well as road closures.

The rain will gradually ease from this evening.
