94-year-old Chertsey woman living with dementia treated to FA Vase surprise

A Chertsey woman who has supported the town's football club for more than 70 years was today surprised with the club's newly won silverware.

94-year-old Betty lives with dementia and was unable to make the trip to Wembley on Sunday (19 May) when Chertsey Town beat Cray Valley 3-1 in the final of the FA Vase.

Betty has close ties to the club having helped behind the scenes there for most of her time as a supporter, with her husband and son having both pulled on the club's colours.

Staff at The Orchard Dementia Centre, where she is a client, helped organise the surprise along with members of the club.

Betty said:

"It means everything, I just can't believe it."

Reminiscing about her past, she added:

"I met my husband and he played for Chertsey, he played in goal.

"I did all sorts, made the tea, did the washing - I did everything down there."
