Surrey and Hampshire set for sunny Easter weekend

Sunshine sun summer

Published by Josh Kerr at 1:18pm 15th April 2019. (Updated at 2:53pm 15th April 2019)

Forecasters are predicting temperatures could reach as high as 23C across Surrey and Hampshire this Easter weekend.

That would make our two counties hotter than Corfu, St Tropez in southern France, Bodrum in southern Turkey, and the Spanish island of Majorca.

It will be sunny and dry for most across the four days in our area and most of the south of England will experience similar temperatures.

Eagle Radio spoke to Mark Wilson from the Met Office to find out just how much sunshine will be coming to Surrey and Hampshire:

What can we expect?

"Through the week we're seeing increasing amounts of dry and fine weather, lots more sunshine to come. There will be a bit more cloud at times, but often fairly bright and sunny.

"Temperatures will really respond, so day by day this week temperatures will rise. I think by the time we get through to Wednesday/Thursday time we're looking at high teens/low twenties.

"It looks like we'll see the peak of the temperatures probably on Good Friday and Saturday. Into Easter Sunday it's still looking like it'll be on the warm side, but there's some uncertainty there - there could be something a bit cooler as we head into Monday."

How hot will it be?

"We're looking at highs around the 22 degree mark, we might squeeze 23 degrees in one or two favoured spots, but I think we're talking the low twenties quite widely across the region.

"So feeling pleasantly warm for many areas particularly in the sunshine and fairly light winds as well."

Will it rain?

"For the bulk of the weekend I'd say no, I think particularly through Friday, Saturday and Sunday it's looking dry and fine, plenty of sunshine.

"There's a bit more uncertainty as we into Easter Monday, there could be something a bit more changeable."

What if you're out in the sun?

"Just be mindful that the sun is starting to get a bit of strength together now so if are out and about enjoying the sunshine, which I think many people will be, use sun cream, maybe wear a sun hat and drink lots of water as well.

"Although temperatures aren't going to be exceptionally hot it will still be pretty warm, so enjoy the sun but at the same time use protection against it."

Outlook for Wednesday to Monday:

Some bright or sunny spells, but chance of showers on Wednesday, with Thursday then dry.

Many places will be dry for Good Friday, with warm sunny spells.

The rest of the Easter weekend is looking to be mainly dry and warm, though there is still some uncertainty in the forecast as to how cloudy it will be.
