fog

Published by Josh Kerr at 4:04pm 30th January 2019. (Updated at 6:50pm 30th January 2019)

Surrey and Hampshire remains on snow, ice and fog watch...as another weather warning has been issued for our area.

The latest Met Office alert for ice and fog is in place from 10pm this evening (January 30) until 11am on Thursday (31 January).

The warning is in addition to the existing yellow warning for snow and ice in our area tomorrow.

It follows the snow and ice warning being moved forward to 1pm.

Areas of freezing fog will form across Surrey and Hampshire on tonight and will be slow to clear on Thursday morning.

What to expect:

  • Slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible
  • There is a chance of delays or cancellations to flights
  • Probably some ice on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

What should I have in my car?

The RAC is urging motorists to "be prepared for every eventuality" by ensuring that your car is equipped with:

  • demisting pad,
  • torch (wind-up so you don’t run out of battery),
  • a hi-vis vest to make you visible if you break down,
  • a blanket to keep you warm,
  • some food,
  • a drink,
  • spare screenwash,
  • de-icer,
  • ice scraper,
  • shovel,
  • phone charger,
  • map,
  • a first aid kit,
  • a warning triangle,
  • some jump leads,
  • a spade,
  • a square of carpet that you can use to put under your drive wheels should you get stuck in the snow.
