Published by Lucinda Horsley at 8:40pm 28th January 2019. (Updated at 11:18am 29th January 2019)

Emergency services were called to deal with an incident on South Western Railway on Monday evening  (January 28).

Lines were blocked for around two hours due to an incident between Woking and Basingstoke.

It has since emerged a man was struck by a train on the tracks at Woking.

He was rushed to St George's in Tooting with "potentially serious injuries."

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

"Ambulance crews including our Hazardous Area Response Team attended the scene and they were joined at the scene by the air ambulance service.

"This followed reports shortly after 7.30pm that a man had reportedly been struck by a train."

"The man was assessed and treated before being taken to St George’s Hospital with potentially serious injuries."

Police say the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

In order to allow emergency services access to the railway, all power to the track was switched off in the affected area last night.

Trains were unable to run between Woking and Basingstoke / Guildford but lines reopened around 9.30pm.
