Chance of snow in Surrey and Hampshire this weekend

Chance of snow in Surrey and Hampshire this weekend

Published by Carol Musgrave at 6:59am 18th January 2019. (Updated at 7:08am 18th January 2019)

We could be in for a bit more snow this weekend, after yesterday morning's light flurry.

The forecast is for sleet and the chance of snow in hillier areas tonight - and across the North Downs tomorrow.

The Met Office says we could get some more of the white stuff early next week.

The first signs of snow in 2019 were spotted across Surrey and Hampshire yesterday morning, between 8:30am and 9am, when brief flurries fell.

It comes after a relatively mild winter - but  Met Office spokesperson Martin Bowles told us earlier this week that we can now expect "colder than average temperatures over a period for the rest of January and probably the first week or two of February as well.

"Obviously within that time there will be some slightly milder spells but generally a fairly cold time for the next few weeks really."

Surrey and Hampshire's five day forecast:

A cold, bright and frosty start, with light winds. Most places dry, although cloud thickening from the west, bringing the chance of rain or sleet across western parts by the evening. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

Cold with further outbreaks of rain, sleet and perhaps some hill snow spreading east overnight. Also rather cloudy, with some hill fog. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Cold, and rather cloudy, with hill fog persisting in places. Rain or sleet likely, perhaps brief snow across the North Downs, but gradually easing. Less cold in the southwest. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Sunday and Monday largely fine, dry but becoming cloudy after bright starts. Overnight frosts possible. Windy early morning Tuesday, with rain, perhaps some snow, clearing to sunshine. Cold.
