Mounds of waste fly-tipped near Virginia Water and Chertsey

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 5:24pm 17th January 2019.

A huge amount of waste has been found fly-tipped at sites in Runnymede.

Police say they are supporting an investigation to find those responsible after what appears to be several tonnes of waste was dumped on a community motocross track in Lyne Lane near Chertsey.

As part of the enquiries officers say they are "trawling hours of Local authority and motorway cameras to track the movement of the vehicles on their way into the borough".

It is thought damage was caused to enter the site where "several lorry loads of business waste" was left overnight on Tuesday (15 January).

Rubbish also appeared on Thorpe Green near Virginia Water, with Runnymede Borough Council having attended to secure evidence in their investigation.

Surrey Police said:

"Work is underway to sift through the debris to identify addresses.

"Runnymede Youth Motorcycle Club is a valuable, voluntary non-profit making organisation who maintain and run the motor cross track in Lyne.

"These schemes are vital in order to provide activities and interests for young people.

"We fully support all action taken to identify and bring to justice the persons responsible for this shocking mess."

If you have information about the incidents you are asked to call Surrey Police on 101, quoting 45190005477.
