Woman dies in crash outside Effingham school

A woman has died following a serious collision outside a school in Effingham. 

The female moped rider in her 50s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene along Lower Road this morning. 

It happened shortly around 9.30am between Howard of Effingham School and St Lawrence this morning. 

The collision also involved a blue BMW estate and a blue Volkswagen Beetle.

One of the drivers, a 31-year-old woman from Epsom, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in custody

Police say the road remains closed and is likely to do so so for some time.  

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said:

"Ambulance crews were called at approximately 9.25am today to reports of an RTC involving a motorbike on Lower Road, Effingham.

"Sadly, despite the best efforts of all those involved, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene."

Anyone who witnessed the collision, particularly anyone with any dashcam footage, is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference PR/P19006368.

A statement on Howard of Effingham School's website reads:

"Buses will be able to pick up students as normal, however in order to minimise congestion, we strongly advise that if you collect your child by car you avoid the immediate vicinity of the school this afternoon."
