Horsley train murder: Victim was "with teenage son"

Horsley Station murder

Published by Lucinda Horsley at 7:53pm 4th January 2019. (Updated at 8:46pm 4th January 2019)

Police say the victim of a fatal stabbing on board a train between Guildford and London Waterloo was with his 14-year-old son.

The man in his 50s was stabbed "multiple times" at Horsley Station at around 1pm this afternoon.

The pair had boarded the 12.58 service from Guildford to London Waterloo at London Road Station.

He died at the scene, despite paramedics best efforts to save him.

Superintendent Paul Langley from British Transport Police says the suspect got off at Clandon Station and fled towards Dedswell Drive.

The public are warned not to approach him but to contact police immediately.

Police believe the suspect and victim were not known to each other, and the suspect remains at large this evening.

Officers have now issued a description of the suspect:

He is described as:

  • Black
  • 6 foot tall (approx)
  • Slim build with a beard
  • Dressed all in black with white trainers

Superintendent Paul Langley from British Transport Police said:

"Traumatically, the victim's son would have been nearby when his father was fatally wounded. This would have been an horrific and hugely traumatic event to have witnessed and we are providing him with as much support as possible.

"We know that the suspect boarded the service at London Road Station, however, at this time we do not believe they were known to each other.

"There have been a number of sightings in the area from members of the public and our enquiries are focusing on these areas.

"We have a number of officers in the area working hard to trace the man responsible for this violent and deadly attack.

"We are working closely with Surrey Police and National Police Air Service who are helping us locate him."
