Nine arrested in Woking station drug crackdown

Woking Station Police

Published by Josh Kerr at 4:23pm 18th December 2018.

Surrey Police say they have arrested nine people and seized three weapons after carrying out an anti-drug operation at Woking train station.

All last week officers, in partnership with British Transport Police, were periodically positioned at the station as part of a pro-active initiative aimed at creating a hostile environment for those attempting to bring substances into the town.

In all 136 stop searches were carried out as uniformed officers, a drugs dog and handler, as well as officers with metal detecting wands manned the exits to target those using the rail network to deal drugs.

Individuals were detained for searches when the drugs dog signalled a positive indication that a person was carrying, or had been in contact with substances.

Borough Commander for Woking, Inspector Andrew Greaves said:

“We know that the rail network is used by groups to facilitate drug dealing.

"This can lead to drug related violence, anti-social behaviour, and other criminality such as fraud, possession of firearms, and exploitation of vulnerable individuals.

“We hope that our actions show that we are intent on tackling drug dealing and the associated drug related crimes that impact on our communities.

"To those travelling from out of the area who think they can deal drugs in our county, think again. And, likewise, we will pursue and prosecute anyone living in Surrey who is dealing or running drugs."
