Farnham teen behind bars after Frimley stabbing

A Farnham teenager has been jailed after what police say was an unprovoked attack in Frimley.

It happened back on August 8 at around 10:40am, when then-17 year old Thomas Gawthorp stabbed his victim three times in the back in Frimley Green Road.

Gawthorp, who is now 18, then dropped his knife and ran off, but was cornered by a member of the public who had witnessed the stabbing.

Officers arrived a short time later - and Gawthorp, of Green Springs, Crondall, Farnham, was arrested.

He was jailed at Guildford Crown Court yesterday (December 6) for three years and ten months, after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a bladed article in a public place last month.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Alex Sarakinis said:

"This was a motiveless and unprovoked attack by Thomas Gawthorp who was suffering from mental health issues at the time.

"We know this incident caused considerable concern in the community and would like to reassure those that incidents of this nature are not an everyday occurrence in our county.

"Fortunately the victim has made a full recovery from an attack that could have been much worse."
