Tributes paid to Camberley couple killed in Leicester helicopter crash

Published by Josh Kerr at 11:07am 7th December 2018.

Tributes have been paid to the pilot couple from Camberley who were killed in the Leicester helicopter crash.

A memorial service was held at Guildford Cathedral celebrating the lives of Izabela Lechowicz and Eric Swaffer, who have been described as kind, generous and funny people.

Yesterday investigators in Farnborough revealed that a loose pin had caused the crash which killed five people including Eric and Izabela.

As well as their love for aviation, the pair were also said to be passionate about animal rights and veganism.

Izabela's sister Kate has started fundraising pages in their memories, with donations going to the London Air Ambulance and The Vegan Society.

On the fundraising page Kate said:

"Whoever met Eric and Izabela will know that they were incredible people. Full of life and passion. Always ready to help and support others.

"Thank you Both for the wisdom, pure love, generosity, integrity, funny laughs, sharing your love for pure food and your dreams about better world.

"For your kindness towards every little animal and sharing your passion for vegan lifestyle. You have been a true inspiration to so many people. Fly high our special Angels."

Described as a skilled pilot with nearly 20 years of experience, Eric worked at EasyJet for six years before becoming a contract pilot.

He is said to have met Izabela when he was working as an airline pilot, and she went on to train in aviation after he took her out for a few flights.

Izabela was named one of the 18 most inspiring Polish women in the UK by the Polish Embassy in March.

She had moved to the UK from Poland in 1997 for a language course, but was inspired to try flight training after meeting Eric.

So far the fundraisers in their memory have received more than £1,500 combined.

You can donate to the London Air Ambulance service here and The Vegan Society here.
