Attempted robbery by "man in mask" in Dorking

Published by Lucinda Horsley at 4:14pm 8th November 2018.

Police are investigating after man wearing a 'Scream' mask and a skeleton costume attempted to rob a Dorking newsagents.

He is reported to have entered Capel, on The Street, at around 7.20am this morning (8 November).

Police say he demanded cash from the till and struck the shopkeeper over the head with a grey pistol.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

Inspector Andy Adams, who is investigating the incident said:

“We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time the incident took place this morning.

“This was understandably a terrifying incident for the victim, who was brave and chased the suspect out of the store.

"At this stage it is unknown where the suspect went after they fled the store, so if you have any information that may help piece this together, please contact us"

“I would like to reassure the local community that we are doing all we can to trace the person involved in this incident.”

Anyone with information that may help identify the suspect is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101.
