£90 million cash boost for Surrey and Hampshire stations

Published by Eagle Radio News Team at 6:00am 15th October 2018.

South Western Railway have announced a multi-million pound investment into stations across the network.

It comes after criticism from passengers this year of cuts to services because of staff strikes over the role of guards on trains.

Part of the investment will go towards installing new ticket barriers at over a dozen stations to improve safety and reduce anti-social behaviour.

Another improvement will see the arrival of 280 new benches to make stations more comfortable.

Wi-Fi coverage will be enhanced and there will be an extra 1500 car parking spaces across the network in addition to improvements to toilet and waiting facilities.

South Western Railway Managing Director Andy Mellors said:

“Our customers sit at the heart of everything that we do, and we are committed to improving their experience of travelling with us. As part of this, we are investing £90 million to improve station facilities across our network.

“South Western Railway’s station improvement programme has already delivered accessibility and customer information improvements at many stations.”

New technology is being brought into station car parks to make paying for parking easier and significant cycle parking facilities are also earmarked for Fleet Station.
