Concern over Farnborough road changes

Lynchford Rd

Published by Josh Kerr at 5:38pm 11th October 2018.

A local community action group has said Hampshire County Council's plans to widen Lynchford Road will "contribute to the further decline of North Camp".

The North Camp Support Group say they are concerned by the impact the changes will have and is holding a public meeting on the issue.

Earlier this month Hampshire County Council launched a consultation on the proposals, which they say will support business growth and reduce traffic congestion in the area.

In response to the plans, that would see part of Lynchford Road become a dual carriageway, North Camp Support Group said:

"This will have a major impact on North Camp village, its residents and small traders, and in particular the 1000 plus children who cross the road to and from Wavell school.

"The stated purpose of the widening of the road is to serve Farnborough airport, the many businesses on the business park and the Exhibition Centre.

"We believe that it will contribute to the further decline of North Camp."

The council has invited residents and businesses to have their say on the idea, with two drop-in events to be held at the Farnborough Holiday Inn before the consultation's conclusion on 12 November.

On launching the consultation Hampshire's Executive Member for Environment and Transport, Cllr Rob Humby, said:

“These valuable improvements will help make travelling around Lynchford Road and North Camp Village much easier for those who live and work in the area, while improving safety for all road users and pedestrians.

“The value of good infrastructure to support the county’s continuing prosperity cannot be overstated.

"Throughout this process, our team has listened to the views of residents and businesses, and I would encourage local people to contribute to the consultation."

North Camp Support Group are holding a public meeting at North Camp Methodist Church Hall between 7pm-9pm on 12 October for residents to voice their concerns.
