Final day of strikes on South Western Railway

haslemere rail station

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 12:40pm 14th September 2018.

Rail services in Surrey and Hampshire are disrupted again this weekend in the last of a series of planned strikes.

RMT union workers are walking out again at one midnight past midnight, on Saturday (September 15) for 24 hours.

It follows a 24 walk out last weekend and is one of several strikes since July in an ongoing protest over the role of guards on trains.

The operator says a reduced service will run on most of the network - with over half of normal Saturday services proviced. Some routes will not have a train service or a replacement bus service.

A South Western Railway spokesperson said: “We continue to seek constructive talks with the RMT and have proposed a framework for these talks which would guarantee a second person with safety critical competencies rostered on all trains.”

RMT General Secretary, Mick Cash said: “There's a simple solution to ‎this dispute and it means SWR stop playing with words and negotiate the guard guarantee that reflects the best safety practice elsewhere in the industry. "

The following timetables are affected:

Trains will run between Alton and Woking, from 07:00 until 20:00. Buses will run between Farnborough Main and Alton from the start of service until 07:00, and again from 20:00 until the end of service. These buses will not stop at Bentley station.
