Will the warm weather return to Surrey & Hampshire?

This week saw the end to a spell of hot weather across Surrey and Hampshire.

The southeast became cooler, with fresher conditions spreading across all parts of the country from Wednesday.

Tuesday was the final scorcher, with temperatures reaching around 33 or 34 Celsius across our two counties.

The high temperatures triggered some hit-and-miss thunderstorms later this afternoon, with a Met Office warning in place for Surrey.

But we're not even half way through August yet, and with plenty of the supposed 'summer months' left, here's the question on everyone's lips...

Will the warm weather return?

The Met Office issues a three-monthly outlook each month, designed to help planners in business and government make long-term decisions based on different weather scenarios.

The outlook for August, September and October indicates temperatures will be warmer than average.

However, there have been reports of the Met Office promising an “Indian Summer” and a "heatwave until October”.

Forecaster say it's important to remember that higher than average temperatures do not necessarily mean a “heatwave” and that it can still be warmer than average but cloudy and windy too.

The outlook gives no indication of how much sunshine we might receive – something that, in many people’s view, would make for a good late summer.

Alex Deakin from the Met Office with today's outlook for the UK:
