Farnham shop loses license after selling alcohol to underage drinkers

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 1:34pm 12th July 2018.

The owner of the Rajveer Convenience Store in Wrecclesham has had his alcohol license suspended after he sold alcohol to a person under 18.

Ajeet Singh Kapoor, from Middlesex, attended a hearing at Waverley Borough Council Chambers Court on Monday 9 June.

The license has been suspended for three months and Mr Kapoor will be removed  as the shop's supervisor and replaced.

A personal license holder will now be on premises at all times when alcohol is being served.

Waverley Licensing Officer, Rab Carnie from Surrey Police, said: "The store owner has disregarded their responsibilities as a licensee and only seemed to be concerned about making as much money as they could and ignoring the possible effects on the health and well-being of the young people that they were selling alcohol to.

"It is proven that the misuse of alcohol can cause anti-social in young people and businesses that have a licence to sell alcohol have a responsibility to ensure that the conditions of that licence and the law are upheld.”

Anyone who suspects underage alcohol sales are taking place or others are buying for those underage is urged to report it to Surrey Police on 101.
