Guildford man banned from four Surrey hospitals

Ben Etherington

5:12pm 14th March 2018
(Updated 10:06am 15th March 2018)

A Guildford man who threatened staff at hospitals including Frimley Park and the Royal Surrey has been handed a Criminal Behaviour Order.

37-year-old Ben Etherington has been handed a five-year-order for his persistent drunken and anti-social behaviour.

He was repeatedly abusive and sometimes sexually inappropriate to workers, at four Surrey hospitals, as well as to local residents.

He has been banned from Frimley Park, Royal Surrey, Farnham Road and St. Peter's hospitals without an appointment or unless it's an emergency.

Etherington was described as a "drain on local resources" in Guildford, Spelthorne and Manor Court.

The Order prevents him from being in the area below.

The 37-year-old would often present himself at these local hospitals, sometimes multiple times daily, and then refuse to leave once treated.

He was also frequently arrested for his drunk and disorderly behaviour not only in Guildford but other areas such as Manor Court in Weybridge and in Spelthorne.

Etherington has been offered support from homeless charities, and for alcohol treatment.

However, Surrey Police said, "for years he has consistently refused this help....(his )threatening and abusive behaviour has had a negative impact on the local community for some considerable time."

If he breaches the five year order, he could be sent to prison or fined, or both.
