Get ready to wrap up against the chill

snow 2

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 6:18am 7th December 2017. (Updated at 7:58am 7th December 2017)

The far northern parts of the UK are being warned to brace themselves - as Storm Caroline bears down.

The Met Office has issued warnings about strong winds for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

It says the storm potentially poses a risk to life.

Here in Surrey and Hampshire, the forecast is for a wet and windy but mild morning - clearing later to some sunshine this afternoon.

However, we could still see some snow showers this weekend.

Here is the full update for the southeast from the Met Office: A cloudy and wet start today, with occasionally heavy rain, and strong winds with coastal gales. This will clear everywhere but the far southeast around midday, followed by a sunnier afternoon, but it will become increasingly cold with fresh northwesterly winds developing. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

A few wintry showers are likely overnight - there will also be clear spells, becoming cold with a widespread frost forming. Winds will remain brisk. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Tomorrow starts off cold and frosty, but sunny, staying cold with strong winds and a few snow showers especially in the west. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Saturday will be cold and sunny with a few snow showers, winds easing and a sharp frost developing overnight.

Rain on Sunday, possible snow in the north spreading eastwards.

Monday is cold and windy, with a few showers.
