hay on fire

(Updated 3:10pm 13th October 2017)

Fiirefighters from all over Surrey have battled a blaze through the night after 300 hay bales caught alight outside Guildford.

They caught fire in a barn in Grafham - along the A281 between Bramley and Alfold.

Surrey Fire and Rescue were called out at around 3:30pm yesterday - with more than 50 attending in total.

24 appliances and special vehicles from around the county, including four water carriers, were sent to fight the flames, from Cranleigh, Guildford, Godalming, Leatherhead, Woking, Haslemere, Dunsfold, Farnham, Dorking and Camberley.

There have been no reports of injuries.

The barn is reportedly undamaged - the hay was moved out the barn into the open - where one crew is still damping down.

The A281 Horsham Road was closed yesterday in both directions near to Pepperbox Lane.

It has now reopened.
