Elderly woman suffers broken bones in Surrey attack

Police

4:06pm 11th September 2017

An elderly woman has suffered broken bones following a violent robbery in Worcester Park.

The 84 year-old was walking through a tunnel under the railway lines onto Lynwood Road when she was approached by a man from behind.

He pushed her to the ground which led to a broken finger and suspected broken bone in her back.

He also took her handbag, which included a red purse.

It happened on Thursday September 7 between 1.30pm and 2pm and Surrey Police is now appealing for witnesses into the attack.

The man is described as white, 5ft10 to 6ft tall, of slim build, with short dark hair.

At the time he was wearing a maroon coloured t-shirt at the time and a baseball cap.

Epsom and Ewell Safer Neighbourhood Inspector Jackie Elkins said: “This was a shocking robbery of an elderly lady in the middle of the day.

“We understand that this may cause concern in the area, however I would like to reassure residents that we are treating this seriously.

"If you do regularly walk alone, please be aware of your own personal safety and avoid using short cuts, keep to well-lit busy streets and consider carrying a personal attack alarm."

Surrey Police is asking anyone with any information to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 45170098611.
