An injured animal has been rescued after it became stranded at Cobham Services.

It had spent more than a week living just off the M25 - unable to fly away.

Police were called to help rescue it in the early hours of Monday morning at around 2:20am.

They were assisted by staff from The Swan Sanctuary in Shepperton, where the swan is now being cared for.

A spokesperson at the sanctuary told us they believe it had been at the services for more eight days.

She said it might have suffered some damage to its wing muscles, but they would not know for sure for a day or two.

She said the swan is doing well though, although it was very hungry when it arrived.

The animal will be released on to the sanctuary's lake once it is well enough.
