Work to start on new school in Bordon

mill chase gcse 2016

4:43pm 29th June 2017

A new school is to be built in Bordon this summer.

Work on the new Mill Chase Academy will start in the coming days.

From the end of June, the former Budds Lane playing fields will be closed to the public.

The site will be handed over to Hampshire County Council, ready for construction of the new school to start later in the autumn.

The school's current premises on Mill Chase Road will close at the end of the summer term in 2019, with students beginning the 2019/20 academic year at the new premises on Budds Lane.

Planning permission for the new school was granted by Hampshire County Council's Regulatory Committee on 21st June.

On behalf of the County Council, its Leader, Councillor Roy Perry has agreed an investment of £10 million towards the £30 million cost to build the new school facility, close to the town centre.

The balance of funding will come from contributions from the Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company, Homes and Communities Agency, East Hampshire District Council and the Education and Skills Funding Agency.

Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Education, Councillor Peter Edgar said: "We have been working with the Mill Chase Academy, the University of Chichester Academy Trust and the MoD's development partner, the Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company (WBRC), to develop the plans for the new school facility.

"The new buildings, designed by our experienced team of designers, will provide an opportunity for the Academy to continue to strengthen the quality and range of educational opportunities for the local area.

"Our commitment to the delivery of new school buildings is a further example of the key and active role that this Council has in the regeneration of Whitehill and Bordon.

"This commitment includes providing the essential infrastructure needed for the new town."
