Woking railway line fatality after 'concern for person trackside'

A person has died after being found on railway lines in Woking.

The alarm was raised to police when a person was reportedly spotted on the trackside near York Road.

Surrey officers and British Transport Police rushed to the area at around 12.36pm (April 1).

Ambulance crews were also called but sadly the person was pronounced dead at the scene. 

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line close to Woking on Saturday, 1st April after a report of concern for a person who was trackside.

"Officers from the BTP and Surrey Police attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 12:36 hours and is currently being treated as non suspicious.

"Medics from the local Ambulance service also attended but the person was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"A file will be prepared for the Coroner."

The line was handed back to Network Rail shortly before 3pm.
