Disruptions through Guildford station this weekend - as upgrades get underway

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 8:11am 1st April 2017.

It is a weekend of disruption on the trains in Guildford - due to upgrades on the tracks.

Network Rail says the £800,000 project is to improve journeys through one of the busiest stations in the south of England.

It says the lines through Guildford are heavily used by services connecting Waterloo to the south coast.

Their advice to passengers in the Guildford area this weekend is to 'Check Before You Travel'.

A project worth £800,000 gets underway today to place more than 200 metres of track - just to the south of the station platforms.

Network Rail is also replacing key sections of switches and crossings.

The company says it is to make journeys more reliable for passengers.

The upgrades take place today (April 1)and tomorrow (April 2) - as well as next weekend - April 8/9, and on Sunday April 30 and Sunday May 21.

Replacement bus services will operate during these times.

South West Trains and Great Western Railway passengers are advised to check their journeys in advance.

Becky Lumlock, route managing director at Network Rail, said: “As part of our Railway Upgrade Plan, we’re investing £800,000 to make the railway at Guildford more reliable. This is an important part of our commitment to provide a better railway to the growing numbers of passengers.

“I’d like to thank passengers for their patience while we complete our upgrades, and remind them to check before you travel to avoid unnecessary delays.”

Network Rail will also be undertaking follow-up work overnight on Monday to Thursday during the weeks beginning Apri 3l, Apri 10, May 1 and May 22 - although Network Rail says this will not impact services.
