Camberley man calls for help to fund life saving treatment

Jamie

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 7:01am 2nd April 2016.

It's big dreams for a man from Camberley, despite plans to get a leg amputation.

Jamie Gane, who's in his final year of uni, has been suffering with chronic plantar fasciitis for 12 years.

It means he can't feel anything in his right foot.

"It's completely affecting my life, its affecting how I'm able to function...

"On average I spend about 2 days in bed because I'm in so much pain.

"I don't want to be in pain, I'm 22 years old, I'm relatively fit and I want to be able to do what my friends are doing.

"It is a common condition, which is usually overcome with physiotherapy or injections.

"I've already had alot of operations and they have hardly helped at all, so I've had enough.

Infact, I'm still in the same amount of pain - if not worse because of them."

This summer, he'll be travelling to India to have the surgery.

Jamie says it's available sooner: "My referral for the NHS surgeon still hasn't come through - I've been waiting for a year for it.

"I start work in September so it's important for me to get it done as soon as possible."

Aswell as landing his dream graduate job in finance, Jamie is training to compete in the 2020 Paralympics.

He hopes to compete in power lifting and athletics (discuss, javelin and shot-put).

"If I work hard and keep going as I'm going then I feel I have a good chance of potentially going to the Paralympics."

The life changing trip doesn't come cheap - Jamie needs to raise £5500 to fund it.
