Runner pounds the pavements for a 19th century church in Fleet

A Farnham runner returns to his childhood town today - to help raise funds for repairs to a burnt out church in Fleet.

Stuart Williamson is one of a group of people who will be pounding the pavements for the All Saints Church in Church Road.

It was partly destroyed in a huge blaze on the 22nd of June last year.

Flames ripped through the 19th century building, destroying the roof and leaving it gutted.

Stuart was was brought up in Fleet - and says the church holds many fond memories for him: "My parents live in Fleet, have lived in Fleet for that amount of time, and it's a church that's important to them.

"I've been going or went as a youngster, I was a chorister there.

"It's a church that's integral to the Fleet community.

"Certainly for 20 or 30 years it was part of my childhood and my formative years.

"It was a hugely shocking event, knowing that the memories you have of that church went up in smoke as well.

"It's shocking to see a place that has been part of your childhood for so many years, part of your family history for so many years, lost in a couple of hours."

Last December a 17-year-old boy was jailed for four years for starting the fire.
