A West Molesey man will spend seven years behind bars for the death of a 55-year-old East Molesey woman.

35-year-old Jason Taylor, of Dunstable Road, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court today (March3) for causing death by careless driving whilst under the influence of drink.

He hit Yvonne Wyeth while she was cycling in Hersham, Walton-on-Thames, in May 2015.

He was also driving whilst disqualifiedand without insurance.

Taylor pleaded guilty to the following:

  • Causing the death of 55-year-old Mrs Yvonne Wyeth from East Molesey by careless driving whilst under the influence of drink.
  • Two counts of driving whilst disqualified.
  • Two counts of driving whilst uninsured.

He was sentenced to 10 and half years in prison - which has been reduced to seven years to take account of his guilty plea.

Taylor has also been disqualified from driving for nine years.

Commenting on the sentence DS Gary Wright of the Surrey Police Collision Investigation Unit said: "The lengthy sentence metered out today demonstrates the severity of this offence in which a cyclist was killed and a family left distraught.

"I hope in some small way that it might help the family move on with their lives.

"It should serve as a stark reminder that drink driving is totally abhorrent and unacceptable. Surrey Police will continue to robustly tackle the issue and bring offenders to justice.”
