Campaigners vent anger at latest Hart housing setback

Hart

6:02am 19th January 2016
(Updated 1:06pm 20th January 2016)

A call for heads to roll as a major housing consultation for Hart is pulled at the 11th hour.

It is coming from campaigners who are furious at last week's events.

The consultation on how to meet housing demand over the next 20 years was abandoned the day before it was due to end.

Questions were changed part way through, as errors were found in the detail.

David Turver runs the We Heart Hart Campaign: "Whoever instigated the idea and approved the notion of changing the questions halfway through, really needs to be considering their position.

"But we don't yet know who that was.

"I think it's clear that they don't have the skills, either capacity of capability, inside the council to deliver this.

"I think they need to recognise that and appoint an external project manager.

"We can't have the situation that every year that goes by, the whole thing slips by another year."

The council says it is investigating exactly what went wrong and is planning a new consultation later this month.

When Eagle asked council leader Stephen Parker what costs will be involved last week, we were told 'the question has been asked but I haven't had any answers yet'.

He was asked who was to blame and replied: "We're going to be doing an exercise to find out exactly how it went wrong and where it went wrong, and I'm not going to pre-judge that."
