Hart Council forced to abandon major housing consultation at the last minute

hart district council

3:39pm 14th January 2016
(Updated 7:40pm 14th January 2016)

Embarrassment for Hart District Council as it is forced to abandon its housing consultation at the last minute.

For weeks it has been asking people for their views on how to meet housing demand over the next 20 years.

The consultation was due to close on Friday January 15th but has been scrapped because 'errors' have been found.

The council is apologising and says a new consultation will be launched shortly.

When Eagle asked council leader Stephen Parker what costs will be involved, we were told 'the question has been asked but I haven't had any answers yet'.

He was asked who was to blame and replied: "We're going to be doing an exercise to find out exactly how it went wrong and where it went wrong, and I'm not going to pre-judge that."

In a statement provided to all local media, Councillor Parker, said: "In order not to undermine the consultation process and to maintain a fair and transparent procedure, we have taken the decision to stop the consultation and have ceased our online response form.

"I apologise to the residents and businesses of Hart for the inconvenience caused and I would like to reassure the public that by working with my colleagues to rectify the issues discovered, we will create a robust consultation going forward."

It is understood the errors meant important information was missed out of the consultation documents.

When that was rectified, it meant people were giving their views on different questions.
