Crossrail 2 project could include Woking and Guildford stations

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 4:02pm 17th July 2015.

Hundreds of thousands of Surrey residents could have a better commute into London in the future.

Plans have been unveiled to extend the Crossrail 2 route to include Woking and Guildford.

Surrey County Council has launched a study to see if the train line can be extended.

Proposals for the cross-London line currently take in Shepperton, Epsom, Hampton Court, Chessington South and Surbiton stations.

If approved, the rail project promises to help alleviate severe overcrowding.

Cabinet Member for Transport and Planning Mike Goodman explains which areas Crossrail 2 would include.

He said: "It would look at extending from Surbiton out to Woking via Walton and Weybridge, and adding a route from Surbiton and Guildford serving places like Oxshott and Horlsey, using the existing South West mainline."

"Nearly 130,000 Surrey residents travel to London by train every day, and within 20 years daily commuter numbers on the South West mainline into Waterloo alone will rise by 25%."

Crossrail 2 services could run from 2030 if the project gets government approval.
