Surrey Police pay tribute to fallen officers at Light the Lakes 2018

Published at 8:00am 23rd June 2018.

Surrey Police officers and staff will climb the Cumbrian Fells to raise money for families of officers killed at work.

Groups will each climb a chosen peak and at 3am on June 23 they will light up the summits with torches and flares.

This event was founded in 2012, when colleagues and friends of murdered Surrey Detective Constable Heather Cooper climbed the Wainwright Fells in the Lake District to raise money for her children.

Light the Lakes has since become an established event that raises money for the Care of Police Survivors (COPS) Charity.

Surrey Police organiser Detective Sergeant Vinny Wagjiani said: “I am humbled to be leading this great event, and to see so many colleagues from across the UK raising funds for COPS in memory of lost colleagues.

“For me, it is a special moment just after the peaks are lit up to reflect and to think about my fallen workmates, their families and how honoured we are to be police officers."

More details about the event can be found on the Facebook page.
