Fleet Half Marathon to 'go ahead as planned'

Published at 3:09pm 13th March 2020.

Organisers of the Fleet Half marathon say they are continuing to monitor the situation regarding coronavirus "very closely", but that the race will go ahead on Sunday (15 March).

Runners are being advised to follow the guidance from Public Health England.

Extra precautions, facilities and advice will be in place for race day, which is expected to see over 3,000 runners take part.

In a statement Fleet & Crookham AC said:

"Their [the government's] advice still remains that the risk of infection from outdoor events such as the Fleet Half Marathon remains low, and that there is no epidemiological or medical evidence to suggest that mass participation events should be restricted at this time.

"We ask runners and spectators to play their part in slowing the spread of the virus by following NHS’s advice regarding good hygiene practices, washing their hands, covering their mouth and nose when they cough, or sneeze; and disposing of used tissues in the bin immediately."
