Outrage at "mindless" vandalism to flowers on Fleet roundabout

Published at 3:00pm 17th April 2019.

Residents of Fleet have been expressing their shock and disgust after vandals tore up a flowerbed and left plants strewn across the ground.

The incident happened on the roundabout close to the town's railway station, with commuters being met with the unsavoury sight this morning.

However shortly after images of the damage appeared online a woman living in nearby Elvetham Heath decided she wanted to do something about it.

Lynita McGeoch, who works part-time at a local nursery, said she was "so outraged by it" that she "got up, got dressed and went to clear it up".

She added:

"I was bitterly disappointed in whoever did this mindless act of destruction.

"Whoever did this must have extremely muddy clothes and fingers, these poor plants were pulled up out of their roots.

"I’m not the best gardener but I tried to plant the bulbs back and a lovely lady who lives opposite the pub lent me her trowel, broom and dustpan and brush.

"The Fleet community at its best, it’s not all bad."

On what she would say to those responsible, she said:

"There are lots of people who could do with a helping hand in their gardens.

"Put your anger to good use and help, not destroy."

Fleet Flowers
Lynita replanted several of the bulbs.
