Fire crews battle blaze at Eversley Common

Fire crews battling a blaze at Eversley Common on Tuesday night.

Teams from Hartley Wintney, Fleet and Rushmoor were all called int o tackle the flames.  They arrived at around 3.30am and found a “large area of gorse and undergrowth” on fire, which took two hours to put out.

It comes as several fires affecting undergrowth have occurred in Surrey and Hampshire over the past week, partly due to the hot conditions.

There were fires yesterday too, including one at Horley Woods at around 8.30 last night.

A large patch of gorse and undergrowth was on fire, but the crews managed to get it under control within an hour.
