Family's heart-breaking tribute to man hit by HGV in Hartley Wintney

Published at 2:08pm 8th June 2018.

The family of a pedestrian who died in a crash in Hartley Wintney say he was a "much loved husband, father and grandfather".

David Corfield of Old Potbridge Road in Winchfield was hit by an HGV on the High Street on Monday (June 4) afternoon.

The 81 year old's family have paid tribute saying he had a wide circle of friends, and was a dedicated member of the local community as churchwarden and treasurer at St Mary's Church in Winchfield for over 30 years:

"The many candles lit at St Mary's and St John's churches are testament to the esteem in which he was held in the local community.

"After a long career in insurance he became chairman of EADA (English Amateur Dancesport Assoc), represented England on the World Dancesport Federation and was, with his wife, Mary, a talented ballroom dancing competitor for over 50 years, representing his country and winning the first over 50s Open British Championship at Blackpool in 1998.

"His sense of humour, natural energy and generosity will be sadly missed by all those who came into contact with him."

The family have also thanked the community and emergency services for their support in such difficult circumstances, particularly those who helped at the time.

Officers would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting Operation Headquarters.
