Pedestrian dead in Hartley Wintney crash

Published at 1:28pm 4th June 2018. (Updated at 4:53pm 5th June 2018)

A pedestrian has died after being hit by an HGV in Hartley Wintney.

An 81-year-old man was struck by the lorry along the High Street at 12.20pm this afternoon and died at the scene.

The A30 High Street is currently closed at the junctions with Fleet Road and Monachus Lane.

In an appeal for witnesses, Inspector Andy Tester from Hampshire Police , said: “ It is believed that the driver of a silver Skoda Superb taxi was in the High Street at the time of the incident and may have seen what happened.

"It is also possible that this vehicle is fitted with a dash-cam so could have recorded the incident.

"I would like to ask the driver of this car, or anyone else who was in the vehicle, to get in touch with us as soon as possible as they may have vital information.

“We would also like to speak to anyone else who may have witnessed the collision or has dash-cam footage relating to the incident.”

It is expected to remain shut until at least 6.30pm this evening (June 4).

Diversions are being put in place after the incident happened outside the antiques shop.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any other information that could assist the investigation, should contact Hampshire Police on 101 quoting Operation Headquarters.
