Vandals have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage after smashing up Fleet Football Club's home ground.

Over the past six months, doors and windows have been smashed, sprinklers turned on the stands and even electrical cables pulled up.

This is not just a one-off incident either, Calthorpe Park has been targeted on multiple occasions.

Chris Arnold is Youth Secretary at the club and said: "Whilst causing damage to the grounds might seem like fun to some people, we simply don’t have the resources to continue these repairs long-term."

Fleet Town Football club is now appealing for help in stopping the vandals.

Locals are being asked to volunteer to help increase presence on the site to stop trespassers entering.

On top of this, Hampshire Constabulary is investigating the damage caused.

Hart District Councillor Adrian Collett told Eagle he doesn't know how much longer this can go on for: "It is costing the club an enormous amount of money.

"When you consider they are a voluntary club they don't have the resources to carry on putting things right when they're damaged in this way.

"Whoever is doing this is not a friend of football if they can do this sort of thing.

"If some of the damage can't be repaired because the money has run out, where does that leave the club for the longer term?

"They can't spend money they haven't got, so this is a very serious issue."
