Missing Fleet man: Body found

Published at 5:44am 16th May 2017. (Updated at 1:42pm 16th May 2017)

Officers searching for a missing man from Fleet have discovered a body.

The family of 45-year-old Mark Baldwin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Formal identification procedures are ongoing.

The body was found in the water after searches along Basingstoke Canal east from the junctions of Aldershot Road and Connaught Road.

At this time the death is not being treated as suspicious.

It is requested that the privacy of the family is respected.

Yesterday (May 15) specialist officers were called in, along with a police helicopter, to look for Mark.

Together with his family, Hampshire Constabulary said they were very concerned for his welfare as he may have suffered a medical episode.

It is not clear where the body was discovered but we are told  he usually went for a run at Fleet Pond, Basingstoke Canal or Velmead Woods.

Hampshire Constabulary advised people not to try to help find him themselves, as it could impede their search.
