Motorist praised for 'doing the right thing' after Wisley car fire

Published at 11:39am 25th May 2020.

Surrey Police have praised a driver who ‘did the right thing’ following a small car fire at the southbound Wisley services yesterday afternoon.

The driver of the vehicle exited the A3 at the services when the car developed a fault, before it burst into flames on the forecourt.

With assistance from others, the driver managed to push the car away from the nearby petrol pumps.

Pumps from Chertsey, Painshill and a water carrier from Guildford were dispatched after receiving a call at 12:07.

They were joined by officers from Surrey Police who closed the slip road for a short time.

There were no casualties and the cause of the fire was believed to be ‘accidental ignition’.
