Guildford and Fleet choirs join forces to release lockdown charity single

Choirs in Guildford and Fleet have teamed up with a folk duo to release a charity single in aid of Mind.

'The Hour of the Blackbird' has been created as a lockdown collaboration between Ninebarrow, Hart Voices and The Chantry Singers.

It is hoped the single will raise £10,000 for Mind, with its release coming just days ahead of this year's Mental Health Awareness Week (18 to 24 May).

Roy Rashbrook, musical director of both Fleet's Hart Voices and Guildford's The Chantry Singers, told Eagle Radio how it came about:

"The idea was just to put it up on Facebook, but we listened to the results and we thought 'we can't do that, it's way too good'.

"So the idea then came about, let's do something useful with this.

"Time and time again when I ask people which charity we'd like to support, they say 'we'd like to do something with mental health', especially given the extra strain that's been put on people through lockdown."

So far more than £6,500 has been raised.

Donations can be made online and the track can be downloaded for free on the Ninebarrow website.
